If the damage has already been done, and you have a freshwater turtle at home, you should know how to take care of him/her, in order that he/she does not die.
This, in fact, is the most probable thing that may happen within a few years (if not months) from his/her entry into your habitat.
At the moment, the most common turtles you can find in homes are:
- Red Ear Turtle (Trachemys scripta elegans)
- Yellow Ear Turtle (Trachemys scripta scripta)
- Graptemys kohni (Map Turtle)
Below you can find "vademecums" for the care of turtles.
Our experience suggests reading a great number of handbooks in order to have information about this subject, not yet much known.
-
Vademecum n. 1 (by A C Highfield)
- Vademecum n. 2 Example of an aquarium for freshwater turtles (by Riccardo)
- Vademecum n. 3 Another example of an aquarium for freshwater turtles (by Giuliano)
N.B.: You should not think that by following the advice of this vademecum the life of a turtle becomes acceptable.
It's only a way to mitigate a suffering that is begun with the struggle of transportation and leads to the dead of 80-90% of breeded turtles within the first year.
